California Bans Tanning Beds For Teens

Thursday, October 20th, 2011

Say bye bye to tanning beds if you are under 18.

California is the first state in the nation to ban tanning beds for children and adolescents under the age of 18. 30 other states have legislation on the books to follow suit—and we’re glad to hear it. The American Academy of Dermatology states that people who use indoor tanning beds are at a 75 percent higher risk for melanoma, which is the deadliest form of skin cancer.

Many other medical associations and even the World Health Organization have expressed support to California’s legislature on the tanning bed ban.

As always, Sinless Sun is the natural alternative to the harmful effects of tanning beds.

Travel Size Tan Can! Just $14.50

Our new travel-size Tan in a Can has just arrived! This is our head-to-toe gradual self-tanner, which is great for maintenance or as a touch up spray to your tan. It’s the same solution as our popular Tan in a Can, except it’s the perfect size for traveling and vacations. The spray-on feature goes on smoothly so you get no streaks, no orange, and no unpleasant odor. It’s similar to the solution we use in the studio, which contains all-natural beet and cane sugar extracts, as well as 100% whole leaf aloe vera. There are no chemicals, dyes or perfumes in this solution.

To use, you simply shake the can, spray it about 6 inches away from your skin and then blend any excess tan with a make-up brush for a flawless looking tan, or to maintain the tan you already have. This travel size can is available for  just $14.50 at Sinless Sun, stop by the studio today.

The Sinless Sun Guide to Your Best Airbursh Spray Tan

Wednesday, July 14th, 2010

Summer is officially here and it is time to bring on the sun– well, a safe sun that is.  Show off your tan this summer with our delectable spray-on tans, which are customized to your skin tone.  Whether you are using self-tanner or coming to Sinless for an airbrush tan, we have some tips for making you ad your tan look beautiful and radiant.

Tip 1: Prep yourself!

The morning of your appointment, use a non-oily scrub to exfoliate your skin, particularly the knees and elbows (which tend to absorb more tanner and turn dark), as well as the neck, chest, shins, and face (where the skin is thinner and streaks and cracks show up). Coat any scabs or recent scars with Vaseline, and if you use Retin-A (or an over-the-counter retinoid) or take Accutane, talk to your doctor about going off it one week before your appointment. These can affect how the active ingredient, DHA, is absorbed, which can lead to a splotchy tan.

Tip 2: Dress properly.

This is not the time for your best lingerie.  Wear dark underwear (thongs are best) or none at all for no tan lines.  After your tan, don’t wear tight clothing and go bra-less. If you must wear a bra, loosen the straps and ask the technician to help get you dressed.  Snug clothing can remove tan and leave marks once developed.  Don’t wear jeans and don’t wear built-in-bra tank tops please!

Tip 3: Aftercare

Before getting dressed make sure you feel somewhat dry.  If you don’t, ask your technician to dry you a little more.  Don’t feel rushed to dress.

Tip 4: Just in case you get tan stains

So you did all this and the next day you realize that you have stains on your hands, dark wrists, ankles or underarms.  What do you do?  For total removal bleach is fabulous.  Sally Hansen’s facial bleach will completely remove tanning errors.  For areas that are just a little too dark, scrub gently with a whitening toothpaste and let sit for a few minutes. Repeat if necessary.

Tip 4: Make your tan last

It’s best not to let your skin get wet for eight to ten hours. Don’t exfoliate for at least a week, after bathing pat dry with your towel, shave your legs as infrequently as possible with a fresh razor and just a little shaving cream.  And moisturize from head to toe after you shower and before bed daily with a lotion that is not mineral oil or petroleum based.

One more note!  There are so many things that can affect your spray tan and even if you tan in the same shade each time it can come out different,  but why?   Again, it comes down to your skin. Your skin is a living thing and is affected by many things like: time of the month, the season, the food you eat, stress, medication you take, etc.  If your tan is different, even though solution used was the same and your prep was the same, the most probable cause is the condition of your skin. But if you follow our guide, your tan should come out perfect! Hopefully these tips have helped.

Cancer and premature aging

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

I was surfing online today and came across one of many articles on the dangers of tanning beds:

Cancer, premature aging, dry skin, and more… it’s crazy to think that, in our pursuit of a “healthy” look, we will actually do something so UNhealthy to our bodies!

Thankfully, there IS an alternative, and that’s why I became interested in and began to offer Sinless Sun all-natural spray tans. You can have your tan and eat it too, it’s so natural!
